Odin rules over the Hall of Valhalla, where heroes who die in battle are brought by fierce women-warriers called the Valkyrie. It is said that the Valkyrie are angels of death as they decide who is worthy to enter Odin's great Hall, and therefore die. The name Valkyrie literally means "chooser of the slain".
Meet Sigrún:
"Then glittered light from Logafjoll,
And from the light the flashes leaped;
He saw there mighty maidens riding
High under helms on heaven's field;
Their chainmails all with blood were red,
And from their spears the sparks flew forth."
